Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is hitting theaters and we can’t wait to be the first in line to see it! Of course, Hollywood has made numerous attempts to create the perfect Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, with varying degrees of success. While they entertained us as kids, some might say times have changed and maybe they wouldn’t hold up so well today.
First, there’s the original live-action movie released in 1990 that won the hearts of kids everywhere, including all of us. While it got mixed reviews, it was a box office hit that grossed $202 million on a budget of $13.5 million to become the highest-grossing independent film up to that time. That was followed in 1991 by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. Who could possibly forget the super cheesy Vanilla Ice ninja rap scene? That was followed in 1993 by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, which barely deserves mention.
So where is Mutant Mayhem going to fall? We don’t know, but we’re thoroughly intrigued. With brilliant casting and a film style that’s remarkably similar to the Spider-Verse, it has all the makings of a summer blockbuster.
